Activities & Adventures around Nimbin & the Northern Rivers of NSW
Arts, Crafts and Farmers Markets
It’s safe to say that every weekend there is a market somewhere nearby with local arts, crafts, food, fashion, music and entertainment. Every Saturday the Rainbow Lane Market is on in Nimbin with local produce and crafts. On the second Sunday of each month visitors from as far as Brisbane converge on The Channon Crafts Markets, famous since its inception in 1976, and only 13 kilometres south of Two Figs Retreat. The Nimbin Arts and Crafts Market is held on the 4th and 5th Sunday of each month.
Nimbin the Rainbow Village
Nimbin and the Rainbow Region came to fame with the 1973 Aquarius Festival, the Australian Woodstock event that brought those seeking an alternative, eco-friendly lifestyle to Nimbin and the Far North Coast of New South Wales.
Hikes and Bush Walking
For bushwalking enthusiasts there are all levels of adventure to be had from easy walks to full day hikes. On the easier end of the scale is a visit to nearby Protestor Falls, site of the Terania Creek civil disobedience that saved the last old growth timber in the area. The resulting legislation became the world’s first protection from logging for old growth forests.
Skate Park
Families visiting the area gravitate to the Nimbin Skate Park. There’s a snake run along the side of the park that drops into a larger bowl section containing four heights ranging from advanced vertical to beginner level.
MardiGrass
The first weekend in May sees Nimbin return to its hippie roots with the celebration of Nimbin MardiGrass. The colourful street performers like the Ganja Faeries, parades and comedians are all out in force to support Cannabis Law Reform Nimbin style.

Nimbin Rocks
Some 20 million years ago this region was a hotbed of volcanic activity with eruptions from Mount Warning (Wolumbin) Tweed Volcano leaving behind the Nimbin Rocks, volcanic extrusions of Rhyolite, just outside the caldera wall that remains from those ancient explosions. Nimbin Rocks are extremely significant to the local Bundjalung people, to whom the rocks were the home of the Nmbngee, or Clever Men and young boys were initiated there. The Aboriginal dreaming story can be read at the Nimbin Museum.
Nimbin Candle Factory
Since 1973 the Nimbin Candle Factory has been producing and selling non-toxic, hand dipped, traditionally made candles from their factory in the historic Nimbin Butter Factory. They are open to the public seven days a week so stop in for a tour and see how their candles are made.
Blue Knob Hall Gallery and Cafe
Just north of Nimbin, nestled below Blue Knob and Lillian Rocks, the Blue Knob Hall Gallery is home to a cafe and cooperative gallery showing impressive art exhibitions throughout the year. Stop in for a browse and a cuppa and enjoy the views of Blue Knob Mountain and Nightcap National Park. They are open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
